Squid A I won't lie. I went into this with preconceived notions that it was just some voyeuristic excuse to get Maggie Gyllenhaal naked. I could not have been more wrong. The question it is asking, if due process is something we are willing to sacrifice in the name of "safety" is just as poignant today in 2025 as it was when this was made. In my opinion this should be required viewing for every voting age citizen in the Unitec States. The fact that we are never explicitly told why the characters are being held and questioned, other than "suspicion of association" is the whole point. For us to be free as citizens, everyone must be granted due process. Everyone. No matter what. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/17/25 Full Review Audience Member Interesting start but then you realise one very key omission; what the person is being held for. The Chinese would do this if you called the president a name whereas the Americans were doing it post 9/11 because they had almost 3000 people murdered. Context is everything. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Lumet collaborates with Tom Fontana, one of the most hard-boiled writers in modern TV, for a welcome return to the stark, no-nonsense style of his '60s work. It's revealing to see just how much times have changed. Lumet's 1964 Fail-Safe was a terrifying cautionary tale about a glitch that causes nuclear holocaust. It was made at the height of the Cold War tensions existing between the U.S. and the Soviet Union during the early 1960s. Strip Search tackles tough questions of civil liberties and was made at the heigh of post-9/11 abuse of Abu Ghraib prisoners. It was cut from 120 minutes to 56 and aired only once on HBO and further scheduled airings were canceled. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Uma americana é detida na China. Um árabe é detido nos EUA. A paranóia toma conta dos governos. Os EUA são a China. A China é os EUA. A americana estuda ciências políticas. O árabe estuda ciências políticas. Ambos são estudantes e ambos estão detidos e sem acusação formal, eles são apenas suspeitos. E os interrogatórios são exatamente os mesmos, os mesmos diálogos, os mesmos colóquios. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Briliant script with actual criticisem along with great performences and strong directing. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Saw most of this on HBO tonight... it was interesting. Pretty decent. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews
