John A Gorgeous. Stunning. Astonishing. Acting: it was acting!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/02/23 Full Review Sam B This movie was so bad. The story was cliche; working single mom struggling at the office and not spending enough time with her kids at home. However, we never find out what her struggle actually is; she's just going through a rough patch. Apparently she's a key figure at her office so we're led to believe her issue isn't financial. Her struggle is just a mystery. The main character is asked by her boss to take some time off and during this break learns she has inherited an old house in the South from a favorite Aunt she hasn't seen in 20 years? So, she uproots her 2 boring daughters ( the college age daughter had the potential to be an interesting character) and they move across the country to live in this beautiful old house. When they arrive they ungratefully complain about the home's condition as well as the obligation to care for the aunt's dog "Mister" who comes as part of the deal. The audience then finds out that the main character's old high school boyfriend still lives in this town and apparently he never married after pining for 20 years over this very uninteresting main character, why? The main character was unlikable and all the supporting characters were dull with the exception of the town's coffee shop owner who tried to give a memorable performance but just didn't have many opportunities to do so. This movie gave the audience no one and nothing to care about. The writing was so bad there wasn't much any of the actors could have done to save it. Ideas: Maybe one of the daughters could have had an issue, maybe one was being bullied at school, maybe one was on drugs. Maybe they both wanted to live with their father and his new wife. Maybe the mother had a drinking problem. Maybe the mother was going to lose custody. Maybe the Aunt and the niece ( mother) had some amazing bond or experience that could have been revealed. Maybe the Aunt could have left a letter revealing some family secret! Maybe the stipulation of caring for the dog could have had some kind of purpose. Maybe the dog could talk! Maybe there could have been a reason the old boyfriend never found anyone. Maybe the main character cheated on him with his best friend or caused a car accident that left him partially crippled and she left town out of guilt. Something interesting… really, there is SO much nothing in this movie. The star of this movie was the beautiful old house and a quaint little town we don't get to see much of. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/05/23 Full Review Khara W Very shallow movie with an unlikable main character who does not cause anything to happen throughout this film by her actions. Events happen TO her and the few conflicts that pop up resolve themselves solely from how much the other characters adore her. Chockfull of groan-inducing dialogue as well. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/22/23 Full Review RA D I found some redeeming qualities in this Lorda Mercy Uber-Southern piece. Just the fact the small town portrayed is in my state. And there was a lot of kindness shown in this film (doggone sweet Luke-as well as Andrea who finally comes around to be helpful to her mom). I get soooo tired of crudeness and meanness in entertainment. And, it featured perky Penny at the cafe who had the craziest eyes. I'm a sucker for a long-lost boyfriend-girlfriend story, too, so there ya go…3 rating for me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/20/23 Full Review Stephanie C You know when you're watching a movie waiting for the story to become interesting? That moment never happens in this movie. It's just wasted time I'll never get back. Highly recommend skipping it. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/07/23 Full Review A F If you turn the obnoxious number of times the characters sigh heavily into the microphone, you'd likely die of severe alcohol poisoning.
