Joseph M The film is based on the legend The Butterfly Lovers. It is a comic romance set in medieval China about a girl who disguises herself as a boy so she can attend school and befriends a young man there who loves her for her mind. It is a musical in the style of Huangmei opera (kind of like Peking opera). Rated 5/5 Stars •  Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/23 Full Review camille l The Love Eterne est une impressionnante tragédie musicale hongkongaise qui s'est bonifié avec le temps grâce à une bande-son exceptionnelle, deux actrices en état de grâce en tête d'affiche, Betty Loh Ti et Ivy Ling Po (qui y joue le premier rôle masculin), une mise en scène plutôt efficace, même si le film met un peu trop de temps à se mettre en place et une dernière demi-heure d'une beauté désespérante. Il est facile d'imaginer pourquoi de toutes les adaptations des Butterfly Lovers, celle-ci est la seule à avoir résisté au poids des années. On va dire que les effets spéciaux finaux n'étaient pas forcément nécessaires... The film also likes to point out exactly what has happened, is happening, and may happen through repetitive lyrics. The whole film is very poetic and inspirational. The backdrop and scenery are "fake" but definitely in an appealing way. The gesture and singing are "flowery" but truly beautiful with high aesthetic value... The whole film is a classic of a classic. Mitico film del 1963 della Shaw Brothers, intriso di scenografie e di costumi di una bellezza devastante. È la storia della ricca ragazza che si travestì da uomo per frequentare l'Università (in quel periodo dell'antica Cina le università migliori erano solo per uomini ed eunuchi) ma che si innamorò del suo compagno di classe che la crede un uomo, il suo migliore amico. Musica cinesissima classica - quella dell'opera cinese - del tutto inascoltabile per un pubblico occidentale non abituato, e che invece in questo film è perfetta. Per la prima volta ho capito le movenze, l'armonia di uno stile di opera che ritenevo troppo culturalmente distante per poterlo apprezzare.
