Mixing multiple genres, The Gorge makes for a surprisingly endearing romance until its action-thriller obligations steer proceedings back onto a more predictable path.

Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News The special effects are quite good, but “The Gorge” doesn’t scale the goofy heights in a rollercoaster ride way that it thinks it does, stalling out with a hackneyed ending that makes you shrug your shoulders and want to move on to something better. Rated: 2/4 Mar 3, 2025 Full Review Zachary Lee Chicago Reader The romance, as saccharine as it may be, is an endearing throughline, anchoring the film as it oscillates between its genres. Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Benjamin Lee Guardian Despite looking like it was based on a video game that your younger brother obsessively plays, The Gorge is in fact an original, or whatever that word means when the plot and aesthetic feel like they’ve been stitched together from so many other films. Rated: 2/5 Feb 14, 2025 Full Review Nicholas Bell Fish Jelly Films (YouTube) An intriguing genre hybrid with compelling conspiracy concepts unfortunately suffocates beneath derivative flourishes, video game aesthetics and poorly structured characterizations. But Sigourney Weaver looks fantastic. Rated: 2/5 Mar 20, 2025 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Too absurd to take seriously. Rated: B- Mar 9, 2025 Full Review Sarah Marrs Lainey Gossip For the most part, The Gorge is enjoyable, a very silly idea executed very well. Mar 7, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Daniel S I think that's a really suspenseful Horror Sci-Fi. Acting, camera scenery everything is top. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/28/25 Full Review Josh S Fun in the first half, but kind of lost me once they were in the Gorge, Easy film to chuck on on a Saturday night. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/28/25 Full Review george b Thoroughly enjoyed the film and new concept. Ending could have been focused on slightly more to give a complete feel. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/25 Full Review Matías F Terrible movie, the acting has a good level but after a while it goes down the drain pretty fast. This is one of those Post Streaming Movies that 20 years ago would have never made the cut to be produced. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/25 Full Review Gayle B The Gorge had potential with its sci-fi setup, but it quickly devolved into just another predictable monster flick. What started with promise turned into a total snooze—nothing fresh, nothing thrilling. If you’re hoping for depth, surprises, or a story that sticks with you, this one’s a skip. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/27/25 Full Review Kristen K We watched the Gorge, a scifi suspense movie about two special sniper opps played by Anya Taylor and Miles Teller, from Whiplash & Top Gun. Thinking this was going to be a less intricate plot and more of a let’s see where this goes premise, I was actually pleasantly surprised with the depth of the relationship and sci-fi fantasy development of the film, making it less of a dry stoic thriller. I anticipated a whole silent tense suspense thriller using minimal dialogue and a lot of reserved acting that would only let up toward the last 3rd of the film but it was full of life from the first interaction between them. I wished Id watched it in theaters for the heightened tension. It would have been worth it as one of the few movies that came out this year. Now on the creative sci-fi horror direction, wow that wasn’t stale, it was juicy with dark designs and eeriness and tech. Being a more stylish artistic and metaphorical hell was a good choice as the unfeeling meaningless bio-horror that has been over done in modern films, and it brought it back to a 90s imaginative Del-Toro, Event Horizon type of interpretation which brought elements of “evil” playing a part into the scifi in a way that was intriguing and not corny. The sound design was also a plus, the intimate quiet buildup and the eerie pulsating techno music really pulled me in like older horror scifi that give you a sense of dread and exoticness. I miss esoteric scifi concepts and visions that used to spark my imagination, and this kinda satisfied that litch without being too bizarre. The best part that carried the movie was the performance and chemistry of the two actors with their quick-reactions, daring decisions and vulnerable performance. They never disappoint in both of their specialities- his being a witty, driven, mtraumatized, enduring, upcoming military opps, and Anya being a spunky coy petite talented European girl who always is willing to go for the kill to defend herself and others.
