BRizz 2 The Hatching (2016) is another god-awful so-called horror movie, though honestly, it barely even qualifies as horror. The premise revolves around an alligator attacking people, but the execution is laughably bad — mainly because the alligator looks ridiculously fake from start to finish. Every attack scene completely pulls you out of the moment. The creature doesn’t move naturally, there’s no weight or believability to it, and worst of all, when it’s being carried back to town, it’s stiff as a board. A real animal — dead or alive — would have some natural droop or movement, but here it looks like a cheap prop straight out of a bad theme park ride. I understand, obviously, that it’s not a real alligator. But there’s a difference between using a fake prop for safety and making no effort to make it look convincing. The seams in the body are even visible at times, especially when it’s being hauled around. That level of poor craftsmanship completely kills any suspense the story could have had. The moment they carried that lifeless, obviously plastic alligator into town was when I mentally checked out. Whatever thin tension the film tried to build just collapsed right there. I was left wondering if the filmmakers were even taking their own movie seriously. Bottom line: The Hatching is atrocious — not scary, not thrilling, just unintentionally comedic. If you want a creature feature, look literally anywhere else.
