Critics Consensus

It handles its potentially prickly subject matter with kid gloves, but Intouchables gets by thanks to its strong cast and some remarkably sensitive direction.

David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) The problem is that if, while you're having a good time with these characters, you start to think about the wider implications of the film, you might find yourself somewhat less enthralled. Rated: 3/5 Oct 25, 2012 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times It's not subtle. It's not innovative. But it guarantees good humour, pranks, japes and welling-up for two hours. Rated: 4/5 Sep 28, 2012 Full Review Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard There is something so fatuous about the whole farrago that one will never again believe the old saw that the French are more cultured than the Brits and couldn't possibly be taken for this sort of gooey ride. Rated: 2/5 Sep 21, 2012 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies It’s an example of smart and capable filmmaking that can make you laugh as well as tug at your heartstrings. Rated: 4.5/5 Aug 22, 2022 Full Review Jana Monji Age of the Geek The French film is superior to the Hollywood remake although the problem of Orientalism is more prominent. Rated: 3/5 Feb 4, 2022 Full Review Joanne Laurier World Socialist Web Site The movie is clearly intended to counteract the racist and anti-immigrant policies increasingly being promoted by the French ruling elite and ultra-right political elements in particular. Jay W "Intouchables" is a very unique movie. If I were to describe all the events that happen in the movie, you would think it was a TV mini-series full of episodic misadventures. But, with the way the movie edits its scenes, it moves along at a clip, never wasting a minute. Hearing that, you may think that the film is action packed. But no, it is a very mellow movie. The film is at its strongest when our two main characters are just hanging out. Whenever Philipe and Driss are sharing screentime together, it is a good time. It is whenever the movie jumps to a conflict it is less interesting. I'm glad to see that so many people enjoyed this relatively small French film from 2011. I genuinely wish I would have liked it more, I just found the conflicts with the kid, the egg and the family to be draining. But the time our two leads are just hanging out, it is a real good time. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review Huub B Fuck just a very good emotional but also feel good movie. Was funnier than most comedies while also being more compelling than so many movies. Too good Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/29/24 Full Review Laurent M La rencontre entre Driss et Philippe nous donne droit à une relation autant touchante qu'inattendue. Cette comédie dramatique réussie a agilement aborder des sujets pointus tout en gardant une plaisante légèreté. Par ses personnages, sa réalisation et sa trame sonore, ce film est pour moi un chef-d’œuvre français à ne pas manquer. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/23/24 Full Review Maksim C I simply adore this movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/02/24 Full Review Jānis S Hey, anyone know's this movie available in English? =] Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Sean Kellya The story revolves around the unlikely friendship between Philippe, a wealthy quadriplegic aristocrat, and Driss, a young man from the streets with a troubled past. As Philippe's caregiver, Driss brings a breath of fresh air into Philippe's rigidly structured life, challenging his preconceptions and pushing him to embrace life to the fullest.
