Maggie Lee Variety Certainly less of a dud than the director's inane original, this follow-up is even more tyke-oriented, but at least it's a livelier yarn and boasts a slick upgrade in visual effects. Feb 8, 2016 Full Review Edmund Lee South China Morning Post Soi Cheang's second contribution to the franchise is a vastly improved production that marks the finest attempt yet at adapting Journey to the West for an effects-driven blockbuster. carlos t Minha opinião: um filme que conta uma estória do foclore chinês. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Aaron Kwok's transition from the Bull Demon in the first instalment to Sun Wukong is impressive. I liked Donnie Yen's portrayal of Wukong, but Mr Kwok gets the chocolates imo for his version. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Much better than the first installment. Wukong is toned down and the CGI is a little more grounded. I enjoyed this and would like to see more like it from the series. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie changed my life for the better. I was in the emotional slump we acknowledge as depression, my only son, who was the most treasured thing in my life, fell victim to a car crash from a truck that was speeding down the street. To back this up my wife left me after I was too sad to even leave the house, I was going borderline anorexic not eating anything for days. I could not bring myself to do much of anything, I didn't even get out of bed to go to the bathroom and just soiled myself weeks on end because of my extreme depression. However, when my wife left me because of my state, she felt grief as well. She was scared of the shell of a man that I have become. Therefore she searched, she searched for the one thing that would make me feel better about myself. My wife, Shaniqua, went to the dark web and found this diamond in the rough. Surprisingly she paid 12,000,240$ and 27 cents (tax of course). When I heard this I slapped that bitch across the face for wasting all of our money. It was the first action I took, other than shitting my pants in the bed, for 15 whole hours. However, she told me that when she was watching this movie it blessed her, it was as if "Jesus himself with gold flowing locks of hair, came down from the heavens, singing that stupid ass baby shark song from the internet trying to spread the ways of scientology." She acknowledged the clear irony of jesus doing this because everyone knows that Jesus does not like the baby shark song, but these were her raw feelings so I respected them. Back to the point, She turned on the dim TV from 1972 that was supposed to be lack and white, but this miraculous experience breathed life into our TV making it an astonishing 52 inch HD television with color, instead of our crappy ass monocolor black and white broke ass shit that we were on before. Once this happened, I assumed it was the doing of black jesus, but no, this movie was just that amazing. I watched, sitting on the edge of my shit covered bed, laughing and crying along the way. Once this ended, I turned into Zac Efron with rippling abs to replace my putrid flabs that my wife, Shaniqua, hated so dearly. Once I was Zac Efron, my depression lifted, and it was all thanks to this 4/5 star movie. Signed - Zac Efron Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member After the big disappointment with the first one, I gave this one a low expectation and that's probably why i rate it high, because it exceeded my low expectation. Aaron Kwok is a better wukong than donnie yen. I love donnie yen but he was too artificial as wukong. Aaron has a more natural swag and arrogance to him that makes him a better wukong. Gong Li as the bone demon gave a fantastic performance (seems like she's stuck with antagonist characters now tho). CGI was actually quite nice. Story however, could be improved. This is always the problem with chinese movies is that they put too much emphasis on the CGI and less on the writing. It definitely could be more gritty and heart wrenching as this is an episode that actually got to me more than the other stories because it breaks the group up and test their trust for each other. However, it is lacking that emotional connection in this movie because they are focusing more on fancy CGI fights. Anyway it was still entertaining compared to its predecessor.
