eric b This is a surprisingly good farce -- as good as silent comedy gets, outside of the superstars Chaplin, Keaton and Lloyd. Max Linder writes, directs and stars in this "Three Musketeers" parody, peppering it with droll anachronisms (telephones, automobiles, motorcycles) and acrobatic physical gags. The puns are a little awkward, but you have to love the musketeers being named Octopus, Porpoise and Walrus. The costumes and sets are lavish, and the story sticks righteously close to the original book. The only minus is a creepy, repeating image of an old, bald priest having the few hairs on his head tweaked and pulled. What was that supposed to mean?
