In the years since she and her human-lycan lover, Michael, defeated Elder Marcus, vampire warrior Selene (Kate Beckinsale) has been taken captive by humans, while they wage an all-out war against both lycans and vampires. Awakening after more than a decade, Selene discovers that Michael is dead, but that she has given birth to his daughter, Eve. Shunned by nearly all surviving vampires, save one (Theo James), even Selene seems powerless against her latest opponent: a genetically enhanced lycan.

Also missing... most of the so-called Lycans who, their appearance in a few respectable action sequences notwithstanding, are now nearly extinct. So is this franchise.

Awakening just barely kept me from going to sleep. For most of the run time it is filled with aimless action and dialogue. Once the third act starts it finds direction and goes up a full star.

This was good. I'm surprised I like the franchise as much as I do and that it's not popular with critic's, though the audience seems to like them too. Just the look of the movie is cool. I have all of them, had never seen any of them, and of course I'm going to keep the whole collection.

Synopsis
