      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

A visual and aural assault on the senses, this vampire-werewolf sequel makes a lot of noise and features a heavy-handed, overly convoluted story.

Justin T I think that if you went to watch this knowing that it was an action film and not a horror film then you might be able to really enjoy it. This is nothing more than a slick monster action movie. It does look good but failed to impress me. I had trouble following the story when they were speaking. They talked in such a way to make it really confusing. It was a simple story but confusingly told. The final battle was predictable but exciting. The sex scene was totally pointless. I feel like I am being harsh but then I don't think I am because this really was not an original piece of cinema. I only feel like I should like it more because the effects looked really good. I liked it more than the first one. Even when they weren't using computer effects it did look like computer effects. Looking cool is not everything, we need some depth to our movies! It was a slick action movie. I would have preferred a raw horror movie. It wasn't bad, it was forgettable. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/11/23 Full Review Kalu L Disappointing... the saga started well then it jumped down from a cliff. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/28/23 Full Review Jack O Okay, so after the first Underworld which I unexpectedly not a fan of however I finally did watch the sequel Underworld: Evolution making sure I find it to be good than the first and, no. I didn't find it to be as good but yet not a bad film per say but I expect far more from this. Underworld: Evolution follows after Underworld previously where Selene fights werewolves and now in Evolution, she has to go and fight Markus Corvinus to protect the future from his hidden past. And he remember the flashbacks by stabbing and biting someone. Yeah I know Selene does the same thing. Okay, not the stabbing. Did I forget to mention that Underworld is the same thing as Resident Evil? No, I haven't. Other than that, I can't remember a thing about Underworld: Evolution apart from the constant werewolf fights and they're not as enjoyable but what can I say? It's for the fans. As much I find the first Underworld to be just okay, this one is mediocre but still all right but I wasn't a fan like I said. Will I watch it again? I don't know. I might have the same reaction if I did decided to watch it again. However I'm glad I've watched the first one twice and this one once. But if you do like Underworld: Evolution like the first one then this is probably for you and the fan base. Pop it in and judge for yourself. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/19/23 Full Review Red_Fives 2 More Vamps and 2000s edge/gothic aesthetics...but with a bigger budget. And it's still glorious. Tasha Robinson AV Club Underworld films are a highly specialized taste, and those who've acquired it know who they are. Everyone else should give this one a wide berth. Rated: C- Nov 27, 2006 Full Review Stephanie Zacharek Salon.com The plot is so convoluted that missing even five minutes at a stretch won't make any difference in your comprehension of the story. Oct 7, 2006 Full Review Jim Schembri Sydney Morning Herald The digital critters look much better than in the first film, it's fun seeing Derek Jacobi and Bill Nighy vamp it up, and the sight of Kate in that suit makes it worth squinting through all the murk. Jul 1, 2006 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review With more sloppy computer graphics rendering more fantastical movie monsters, the sequel boasts a lot of digital fakery directed without much grace. The result is dark and noisy and sorta fun to chuckle at, not with. Rated: 1.5/4 Mar 3, 2024 Full Review Grant Watson Fiction Machine The plot remains a rambling nonsense of ancient evil, clan rivalries, and hidden history. Rated: 4/10 Sep 4, 2020 Full Review Joshua Starnes ComingSoon.net While it is still plagued by many of the same problems of the first film, Underworld: Evolution is generally an improvement over the original and an entertaining diversion.
