Robert E. Sherwood LIFE After writing flagrantly destructive criticism for years, I can at last step forth and say, positively, just why it is that most movies fail: it is because so few of them have Dolores Costello in the cast. Oct 5, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member When the film played in the theater the audience was amazed at the sound from the speakers, not the orchestra. This was a re-teaming of Barrymore and Costello after The Sea Beast. It is an adaptation of the novel Manon Lescaut. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member just OK silent period picture Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member This film has truly everything it....Chases, Romance, Action & Drama. It's a true tour de force of Cinema a silent must see. I was fortunate enough to see this film at the opening night of the annual silent film festival at Pordenone Italy & to see on positive 35mm tinted was an unforgettable experience. The film is simply what a man (John Barrymore) does for love & the situations he finds himself in. It's a larger than life film set in Paris in the 1800's. A must see silent classic. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review dave j Tuesday, August 27, 2013 (1927) When A Man Loves SILENT ROMANTIC HISTORICAL DRAMA Great beginning which centers on a girl falling in love with a young man who was supposed to study to become a priest. As it turns out she also happens to have a brother who sold her as a dowry to an unattractive wealthy heir. The two lovebirds soon escape to Paris except that they both have money problems. The movie drags when the protagonist makes a lot of bad decisions for the intentions of giving her what she wants- not exactly what she needs. This pass is solely because of the beginning but not so much of the rest of it as it criticises the problems about living in France as opposed to living somewhere else but the reason for that is that it's being financed by a Hollywood studio. 2.5 out of 4 stars Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member wow i really like this silent delores costello is fab.
