Audience Member A unique, creepy look and atmosphere with great detail Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member There isn't much good ab out this low budget Spanish horror film. The score is pretty good, but the story is stupid and boring. The acting is adequate. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The Witches' Mountain Starring: John Gaffari and Patty Shepard Director: Raul Artigot A commerical photographer (Caffari) takes a random girl (Shepard)--it WAS the Seventies!--with him on a trip to shoot a photo-essay on isolated Witches' Mountain. Random weirdnesses, and eventually witches, haunt them every step of the way. "The Witches' Mountain" is a confused movie with a shock ending that guarentees nothing in it makes sense. How does the prologue with the evil little bitch girl fit with the climax? Was Shepard put in Gaffari's path through magic? What was the deal with the deserted village? Why do witches look like a modern ballet company during rehersal when doing "black magic"? Why do witches like to steal our hero's car and break into his house? These are just some of the questions you will be left with when the final frame of film freezes on your DVD player. The best actor in this film is Shepard, who has shockingly blue eyes and has an odd sort of beauty about her--very much like the more well-known Barbara Steele--but no one is exactly bad... except perhaps that god-awful creepy innkeeper/comic relief character. But that might just have been the voice actor who did the dubbing. Shepard's beauty aside, the only other thing this film has to offer is some great moments of unintentional hilarity to brighten any Bad Movie Night. Otherwise, this is just a mediocre horror film that's scare free and, like its protaganists, ultimately ends up nowhere. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Okay, this little blonde girl kills the cat of a woman because the little girl's snake doesn't like the cat. So the woman burns up the little girl in the garage. Then the title credits start. Ah, to be a horror movie from Spain. Needless to say, the movie suddenly jumps to a photographer who picks up a lovely lady as he looks for 'company' to come with him to an assignment. Unfortunately, he hears the "Omen Choir" performing in his head at times after picking up the girl (which should be a dead giveaway to him at this point). After a rather weird stay at an inn (complete with deaf, cross-eyed innkeeper) our brave travelers move on to the mountain. Where they promptly have their jeep stolen only to recover it at an nearly deserted village (save for a little ol lady). Photo-boy decides to take some pics only to get lost in the dark. Meanwhile, lil ol lady gives the girl some funky potion to drink. Suddenly, photo-boy runs into a procession (singing in Latin? Japanese??). After that, it just gets really weird. There's stuff dealing with a chained dude, voodoo dolls. and missing tongues. Then it gets REALLY weird. "Manos, Hands of Fate" weird. Brain-explodingly weird. SKLOR-CH! Aw great, there goes my brain. Fun rating: 7 (I should take -1 point for dead kitty, but it was a convincing kitty; so well let it slide) This is definitely "Manos" territory but with a slightly better budget. The "What th-?" moments abound. Probably best with you favorite 'chemical enhancer'. Interest rating: 9 (A keeper for those who like movies that mindf*ck you in the process.) Suitable with repeated viewings - but in moderation. Gotta give the old brain-box time to recuperate.
