"World Debut: From Outsiders to the Olympics" is a feature documentary on the story of how skateboarding, surfing, and rock climbing grew from fringe activities to the Olympic stage. These three sports have mostly ever been thought of as action sports and not ones that come to mind when thinking about the Olympics. But, times change. This summer in Tokyo, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing will be official events in the Olympic Games, with medals on the line. How they made it there is the subject of this new documentary. It examines how the world's largest sporting bureaucracy came to embrace sports known for their anti-establishment subcultures. But what does this new found respect mean to these sports and what does it mean for the Olympics to embrace them? The film explores what happens when radical and rigid worlds find ways to cooperate.
