      Dreamland – Archer

      2017 Comedy Action Animation List
86% 14 Reviews Tomatometer 69% 250+ Ratings Audience Score The suave, confident and devastatingly handsome Sterling Archer may be the world's greatest spy, but he still has issues with his friends and colleagues who live to undermine and betray one another. Whether set in 1940s Los Angeles, the jungles of South America or the dangerous islands of the South Pacific, "Archer" is an animated comedy that spans time and place to navigate Sterling, Lana, Cheryl/Carol/Charlotte, Cyril, Pam, Ray and Krieger's misguided misadventures that range from attempting to save the world from nuclear disaster to selling illegal narcotics to Colombian cartels. What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Dreamland may just be a diversion into Sterling Archer's self-aggrandizing imagination, but it wholly succeeds as both an antic parody of hard-bitten noir and a self-contained revitalization of the long-running series' format.

upside d Fantastic season that takes place in Archer's mind after he is put in a coma. Having the advantage of binging it on hulu, the fact that the entire season is one continuous story using previous characters in a new way, like a dream might do, makes this season fun and interesting more than just straight funny like previous seasons. It may not be as laugh out loud funny as previous seasons, but the story might be the best overall since very early. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Im of the opinion with comedy that as long as you make the audience laugh, youve done your job, However after 7 seasons, making 3 whole seasons set in a coma upsets me. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member [⭐️75%] Jumping on the potential of Sterling Archer's coma offers, season 8 takes viewers into an imaginary world where it puts our characters into an unfamiliar environment and roles, making for a fun entry. The change of environment opens up many new and unique plot lines to happen. While Archer season 8's potential is there for everybody to see, its final execution and weak main story prevents it from being one of the shows finest entries. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Just not funny. The show was laugh out loud funny until this season, but really jumped the shark this season. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review avant s neo noir theme was refreshing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member The first hints of Archer's downward spiral can be seen in this season. Demonstrating a lack of quality uncharacteristic of Archer, this season was merely alright. Very disappointing when compared to the incredibly consistent quality of previous seasons. Charles Bramesco New York Magazine/Vulture Archer's vacation in Dreamland ends as all great film noir must, with our hero shouldering the terrible burden of perspective for the sake of the world he's kept safe. Oct 30, 2019 Full Review Ben Travers indieWire [T]he unknown future, while exciting, also feels a little bit empty. Rated: B Oct 30, 2019 Full Review Caroline Framke Vox Cheryl's appearance - not to mention Judy Greer's especially brilliant performance - may have saved Archer's eighth season from itself. Mar 12, 2019 Full Review James Plath PopMatters Archer: Dreamland may be a clever homage to classic hard-boiled detective fiction from the '40s, but Archer in Dreamland is not the wild man we've come to love/hate.
