As she flees the midlife crisis that arose from her seemingly perfect Connecticut life, Mary Ann returns to her home, where she is quickly drawn back in by Anna Madrigal and her chosen family, queer young residents of 28 Barbary Lane, a boardinghouse-turned-apartment complex that is owned by Anna.
