Kevin Pacalioglu (played by the infinitely likeable Tyler Labine), is definitely not your average New Yorker. "Pac," as he's known, is rather clueless, and definitely short on money, but he does have a gift that sets him apart -- he sees dead people. And talks to them. And tries to help them resolve their unfinished issues, though he readily admits there's not a lot of money to be made in helping ghosts. A stay in jail introduces Pac to Clyde Shapiro, an equally unambitious resident of Brooklyn, who allows Pac to share his apartment. Once he learns Pac's secret, though, he eagerly offers to help Pac use his gift to make money. Read More Read Less

Critics Consensus

Deadbeat aims low and scores high thanks to its promising, crass comedy and willingness to indulge in the bizarre.

Ben Travers indieWire Despite its obvious flaws, Hulu's latest is a pleasant enough distraction, a casually engaging time filler with heaps of potential. Rated: C+ Aug 7, 2014 Full Review Tom Conroy Media Life A quirky comic sensibility emerges, albeit slowly. Viewers who give the series a few chances will eventually get it and have fun. Apr 29, 2014 Full Review Neil Drumming Salon.com The show takes two tropes with which we are all extremely familiar - the slacker comedy and the avenging ghost - and lowers the stakes. Apr 9, 2014 Full Review Kayla Cobb Decider The show constantly walks the line between relatable and bizarre, like a less relationship-focused Man Seeking Woman. However, it's a show that's not afraid to go dumb and just have fun. Feb 6, 2019 Full Review Glen Tickle The Mary Sue The comedy of the show plays really well, and the tone is more like an R-rated movie than a typical TV show, which is one of the advantages of online original content. Feb 6, 2019 Full Review Kari Croop Common Sense Media Druggy lead talks to dead people in a cloud of stereotypes. Rated: 2/5 Apr 22, 2014 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member A great show with a funny cast and an idea that was spun in a hilarious way :) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Very Funny series but the villain is too over the top and annoying at times. Still would recommend it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member It's like a cross between The Medium and Reaper with copious amounts of Psyc thrown in. I always wanted to see this actor do better since Reaper was canceled, and it would seem he has. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This show is hilarious! I love everything about it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I love this show! The character Kevin is so funny and I am thoroughly invested in what happens to him. I first discovered Tyler Labine in another show called "Reaper" he was a total scene stealer. I was just drawn to his character. I hope they make more seasons of Deadbeat. Please!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Has to be one of the best shows being made right now! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
