First divorce lawyer Lynn Holt finds out her husband doesn't love her anymore. Then she discovers he's cleaned out their office and taken all their clients with him. So she throws a chair against the wall, stomping around in uncomfortable lingerie and rails against the stupidity of it all. Venting done, the lady lawyer woos new clients, takes on cases involving crackhead moms and cremated dogs, and plots revenge on her ex-partner.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Although Kathleen Quinlan gives a commendable performance, Family Law fizzles out with its bizarre tonal shifts, two-dimensional characterizations, and unbelievable storylines.

Steve Johnson Chicago Tribune The truly distasteful pilot kills any sympathy for [Kathleen] Quinlan by invoking almost every cliche about women standing up for themselves you've ever heard in a cruddy Nashville hit. Aug 15, 2019 Full Review Howard Rosenberg Los Angeles Times Family Law has no visible wheels, and its star, Kathleen Quinlan, wanders through its premiere looking mostly stunned. Aug 15, 2019 Full Review Ron Wertheimer New York Times Ms. [Kathleen] Quinlan is most appealing, but this series can't survive on her determination alone. Aug 15, 2019 Full Review Tom Jicha South Florida Sun-Sentinel Family Law is either a brilliant stroke of counter-programming or the most cynical view of gender relationships in the history of television Aug 15, 2019 Full Review Deseret News Staff Deseret News (Salt Lake City) Family Law is the season's most inconsistent new show, swinging wildly from low comedy to high drama and wasting the talents of the oh-so-talented Kathleen Quinlan. Aug 15, 2019 Full Review David Zurawik Baltimore Sun [Kathleen] Quinlan is a fine actress, and executive producer Paul Haggis is one of the great under-appreciated writing talents in Hollywood. But the male-bashing is so easy, obvious and heavy-handed that you wonder what's left after the vitriol. Aug 15, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I love this show! Love seeing familiar places in Vancouver. Love the references to Canucks, actors wearing tshirts saying Vancouver!! I'm thrilled with it being known as Vancouver. My two favourite characters are the main actress Juliet Stone and the actor playing her father. Her mother is the epitome of the bitter ex. I could go on and on as I like all the characters. I love the humour in a drama, dealing with heavy subjects, situations. This is my new favourite show, I look forward to watching it every week and certainly hope it comes back for season 2. The characters are so real to me. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
