A sign of the apocalypse has begun. Reports of a rapidly changing world for unknown reasons underscore this gritty drama, a prequel to AMC's uber-popular "Walking Dead." The story is told through the lens of high school guidance counselor Madison Clark. The widowed mother is raising two children single-handedly and maintains a relationship with English teacher Travis Manawa, her apocalyptic partner. The challenge of blending their families is exacerbated by unforeseen chaos, and a necessary survival of the fittest takes hold.

David Sims The Atlantic Fear the Walking Dead is already doing a better job than the original of examining how civilization-rather than a small band of survivors-reacts to and evolves during the crisis. Apr 11, 2016 Full Review Noel Murray Rolling Stone It would've been great if the franchise could've come back with a spark of confidence. Instead, we get something needlessly slow-paced, underwritten ... and all wet. Apr 11, 2016 Full Review Simon Abrams New York Magazine/Vulture Like Fear the Walking Dead, it's too frustrating to be great, but too eccentric to be dismissed. Rated: 3/5 Apr 11, 2016 Full Review Natalia Marcos El Pais (Spain) There simply is no risk and not enough to keep viewers interested. [Full Review in Spanish] Jul 11, 2018 Full Review Peter Canavese Groucho Reviews The show's second season improves the spinoff (from more famous elder sibling The Walking Dead) in just about every respect... [Blu-ray] Rated: 3/4 Dec 14, 2016 Full Review Matthew Turner SciFiNow The striking camerawork and offbeat location choices (boat, desert, hotel, etc) go a long way towards setting the show apart visually, though fans can rest easy that the gory moments are still as nasty and inventive as ever. Charlie v Exact Rating: 8.2/10 Fear the Walking Dead’s sophomore season mostly succeeds in expanding upon the first season’s characters, the West Coast’s and Mexico’s apocalyptically driven circumstances, and the human flaws allowed to flourish in such lawless situations. There’s a bit more cheese this time around—more sentimentality in the wrong places—and episodes such as “We All Fall Down” feel a bit like isolated filler in their focus on characters that don’t affect the main group overall. But the rapid change of settings, from the Abigail on sea to La Colonia in Tijuana, the Clarks and co. discover a variety of new perils and foes without much time for breath. Chris’s arc and overall demise is poignant, as the anger gained from his parents’ divorce and his (divorce-instilled) inability to make friends twists him into the mini-psycho he almost became, only to be killed by his own recklessness in the end. The core Clarks grow and separate, as they each heal the traumas they dealt to one another whilst coming to terms with how that past influences the present destruction they cause. “Elena was right. We destroy everything,” a bloodied Nick tells Madison as their then-current residence is destroyed by their hands, only for him to inadvertently destroy La Colonia later on. While missteps are apparent, Fear’s second story takes the time to establish who these characters are and what they do; survivors who don’t know the difference between good and bad anymore beyond saving their loved ones at any cost. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/18/24 Full Review Ed R A much better season than the first! Much more of a story plot now. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/23/24 Full Review Brett L This season was a little worse than season 1. I felt very bored in many episodes. I still liked the characters of Nick and Daniel. Alicia grew on me a bit, but Madison, Travis, and Chris were annoying and very poorly written. The discissions they made were so stupid that is was unnatural. The story also felt contrived at points. There were some very forced moments like Nick and Luciana's relationship or Daniel having to "die" at the midseason finale. I did like the back half of the season, or at least some moments of it. Travis killing those two dorks who killed Chris was awesome TV. Nick being a badass in with Luciana's group was very interesting as well. And of course I loved the ending of season 2 with Troy and this new group showing up. It left me with many questions heading into season three. All told though, a season that had some good moments but also really bad moments that plagued the direction and momentum of this show. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review Nick S Better than season 1 actually (my opinion changed after rewatching it since it first came out). Still suffers from missed potential a lot. It's sad to see budgetary constraints on shows that could be great. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/24 Full Review Gorptholemew T 🍅 6.2/10 Nick is so cute with his pilot attire. Starts off rough but by episode 8 I started getting interested. A much more interesting season with better character development as now I'm invested and feel more understanding with are main leads victor >>> and love the Mexico setting. Also fuck Chris and I hate all the boat stuff. Grade B Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/24 Full Review Travis S The CGI is so bad , this show is closed to unwatchable idk if I'm gonna make it to the end Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review Read all reviews
