A sign of the apocalypse has begun. Reports of a rapidly changing world for unknown reasons underscore this gritty drama, a prequel to AMC's uber-popular "Walking Dead." The story is told through the lens of high school guidance counselor Madison Clark. The widowed mother is raising two children single-handedly and maintains a relationship with English teacher Travis Manawa, her apocalyptic partner. The challenge of blending their families is exacerbated by unforeseen chaos, and a necessary survival of the fittest takes hold.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

A distinctive ensemble brings a compelling flavor of Fear to The Walking Dead mythos, but this ambitious spinoff still shares its originator's penchant longwinded pacing that may diminish the tension for some viewers.

Eddie Cockrell The Australian Fear the Walking Dead has come to resemble ... a complicated soap opera set among scruffy yet fashionably dressed survivors who deal with each other's feelings even as a decomposing dead guy occasionally staggers through the frame. Ruiz de Elvira El Pais (Spain) Although it has improved, Fear the Walking Dead continues to suffer from characters that satisfy the viewer, that make you want to accompany them in their survival adventure, to mark them in some way. Charlie v Season Review and Exact Rating: 8.8/10 Season 3 of Fear the Walking Dead is this series’ best and one The Walking Dead Universe’s high points as well. With upgrades in production value thanks to this season’s Lionsgate associations, showrunner Dave Erickson’s last season is his strongest because he finally ups the ante through stolid character work in pressing times. While “This Land Is Your Land” feels ineffable (suffocation in a bunker when a door could’ve been opened isn’t believable! Alicia’s development is pertinent though), every outing of its 16-episode run dissects the evolving Clark family dynamics in the face of a new frenemy threat on the Otto ranch. Things move at an intentionally breakneck and slow down seamlessly when character study is necessary; Salazar’s outstanding stand-alone episode in “100” demonstrates that with depressing metaphors and symbolic growth for the dysfunctional man. The entire show is metaphorically charged, demonstrating how people go from law abiding citizens to racism’s, psychopaths, and iron-fisted rulers through Fear’s dysfunctional family’s experience that builds up to a calamitous season (and original vision) finale. The Clark family does their destructive magic by unintentionally unraveling past wounds, especially as the Blackhawk Indigenous tribe led by the vengeful Qalataqa Walker (Michael Greyeyes), and showrunner Dave Erickson fully leans into everyone’s evils. Madison (Kim Dickens) finally becomes clearly a building villain, especially as she manipulates the Otto Ranch’s leader Jeremiah Otto (Dayton Callie) and Nick (Frank Dillane) becomes terrified of her actions in “Sleigh Ride”; Nick rediscovers his self-destructive streak through a troublesome friendship with Jeremiah’s psychotic son Troy Otto (Daniel Sharman); Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) manipulates the ranch’s only hope in Jeremiah’s oldest and purest, Jake (Sam Underwood); Strand (Colman Domingo) is punished for attempting to con the nearby, over-the-border dam run by apocalyptic businessmen, and Salazar (Rubén Blades) returns after a half-season’s absence to ruthlessly climb the dam’s shark-infested power structure. On top of impeccable action and non-stop tension, this firmly character anchored season delivers some of the franchise’s most exciting storytelling with layered themes. It’s truly a shame that Dave Erickson couldn’t or didn’t continue his original 5ish season plan, but season 3 will always be a fierce highlight. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/05/25 Full Review Audience Member Season 3 is the best season so far. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/16/24 Full Review Nick S Good season with some very interesting perspectives and plots. At times a bit low-budget-y and poorly written, but overall, I appreciate it as a good part of TWD universe. Apparently this is the last good season. I am looking forward to finding out. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Gorptholemew T 🍅 7.0/10 Let’s count how many times they had to kill Troy but they didn’t just up until i started liking him. The first part of this season 👍👍👍 lovely the second half still good but not as good as part 1. I finally feel like the characters have gained my respect I’m now in a rhythm. So season is good but there is still stuff I don’t fully like especially the weird lil biker buddies towards the end they are just feel like they’re there for some conflict towards the end because they needed something. But damn the stadium is so cool I love the concept of it and it’s done well so props 👏 grade B+ Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Malieva M IT WAS AMAZING, the development of each character, the songs, good story climax, good acting, good relationships and incredible scenes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
