What to Know

Critics Consensus

While the jokes in Galavant ride the line of predictability, their execution, along with campy themes and silly musical numbers, make it memorably entertaining.

Melinda Houston Sydney Morning Herald This extremely silly, thoroughly enjoyable musical comedy series is absolutely worth watching from the get-go. Rated: 3/5 Mar 13, 2019 Full Review Kristy Puchko Pajiba Admittedly, in the 22-minute format, Galavant's grand adventure feels a little rushed and bumpy. But it's got a cast that's making the most of every moment of screentime. Mar 13, 2019 Full Review Vinnie Mancuso Observer The first two episodes, together making up last night's one-hour premiere, had so much more going for it than I ever would have imagined. Mar 13, 2019 Full Review Rob Owen Pittsburgh Post-Gazette The series does try to develop its characters, but Galavant never quite finds a way to ideally pull together its gonzo comedic spirit and musical aspirations. Mar 13, 2019 Full Review Kayla Cobb Decider Galavant is and likely always will remain a solid show. The acting is good, wonderfully bouncing between tongue-in-cheek and genuine performances. The sets and cinematography are excellent, despite the show's limited budget, and then there are the songs. Mar 13, 2019 Full Review Brian Lowry Boston Herald Galavant largely overcomes the challenges that have traditionally bedeviled TV musicals with rambunctious energy, cheeky lyrics and music. C M This show deserves so much more love. Or rather, more people need to know it exists, because you can't see it and not love it. I can take or leave musicals, but this offers so much hilarity, clever writing, and delightful twists and turns, I was singing along by the end. There's even a number for the tough guys and a cameo by Weird Al. Do yourself a favor and check it out. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/29/24 Full Review Jeff K Epic. Fun. Epic fun. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/24 Full Review ArtystaPisarz Galavant! Galavant! Oh, Galavant! What a show... A TV series that is a musical. A musical that is a comedy. A comedy that is a parody. A parody that is pure and sincere. Oh, and funny. Really, really, really funny. A show that shined bright in the darkness of the modern TV night and extinguished far, far too early, like a... firefly (pun intended). It equals the "Princess Bride" and, dare I say it (I dare) at times even surpasses it by the very virtue of being more modern and more self-aware. Oh, and the musical numbers helped a bit here too. Of course both seasons must be watched back-to-back, as a continuous story fulfilled at the great finale. How I yearn to see season 3! If I had enough money and to choose between financing the third season of adventures of Galavant or the second of the captain Malcolm Reynolds, I would probably explode from the internal tension. So, as we see, great masterpieces need not to be all grim and serious and pathologic (pun intended, again). They can also be funny and uplifting and such is "Galavant". Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/02/22 Full Review Audience Member It's like Disney's fairytales have grown up, become self-aware and just a little bit cynical -- and they're gonna sing about it. It's like Monty Python's "Search for the Holy Grail" married an American series and had a baby. A joyous, hilarious, romp-- witty and clever. And the songs are slam'n. :D If you love musicals, check it out, but if you don't (like me), it's still a hoot. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member One of my favorite shows, still mad it got canceled. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm not a fan of Musicals, but i loved this. A gingerbread fantasy comedy, with just a stunning twist.
