Season 1 was pretty good no doubt. But every season thereafter was garbage. They should not have changed Director and got rid of Greg Beeman because the show really went downhill from there... It was absolutely terrible from S2 and on.

The best show ever created. Were this show here today it would be the one of THE most popular show.
How it got canceled i haven't a clue.
Some people just don't appreciate a great series.

Ah yes. The season where not only you were tired of it being all over the place, but all the little interviews and tidbits you picked up on from actors suddenly leaving and having a falling out just for speaking up etc. (Christopher Eccleston of Doctor who fame in season 1 already had to suddenly disappear, Monica in season 2, people disappearing between season 1 and season 2) on set and very cautiously dropping a hint here and there were finally translated on screen so everyone could see what kind of a person Tim Kring was, with the Sylar/Claire scene where he faced IMMENSE backlash online how similar to a rape scene it was AND how he defended that and similar occurrences (Sylar sleeping with Matt's wife while faking to be him later on was another one) finally was estranging his already dwindling fanbase for heroes. I mean, if you look back at this show and a season like this, or even in season 1 Sanders being just eye-candy and good for striptease shows etc., the woke crowd in 2021 would have a field day if this was showed in the modern age.
It's interesting to note that if you look at Tim Kring's repertoire of what he worked with (most of us were hoping he'd never get another job at the end of Heroes), almost nothing ever breaks the 50 to 60 percent ratio of both critics and audience reviews, yet he still got 4 seasons of this AND was able to reboot the series with Heroes Reborn, which STILL was a badly written mess again. It's as if he was an Ed Wood with a larger budget or, more aptly considering with what we know now of what a despicable person he is, the Uwe Boll of superhero shows.
We had the excuse there was no MCU, no DC shows, etc. back then so this was about the only superhero fix around, but I sincerely hope nobody ever even thinks about picking this up in the present time. Think a show like MCU's falcon/winter soldier or some of their movies were lackluster? You haven't seen this...

It is important that the reader of this review understands that Heroes Season 3 is split into two volumes. Volume 3: Villains is a pile of garbage, and would be a 1/5. Volume 4: Fugitives meanwhile is the peak of the entire series, clocking in at 4/5.
Volume 3: Villains has terrible writing, an absolutely awful villain in Arthur, soulless copies of the show's characters that act in very bizarre ways, and a pointless buildup to the "Eclipse" that lasts several episode, while nothing is achieved during it.
Volume 4: Fugitives is a return to form for Heroes, bringing back the sublime pacing of its first season and interesting character conflicts- the characters have returned to their old selves again, without giving up character development. The difference between Volume 3 and 4 in terms of quality is simply staggering, but that said, I'm not sure if I would recommend the season to anyone, because that would mean going through the more mixed Season 2 and the absolutely terrible Volume 3.

The worst season of the show so far, the third season of Heroes raises the question: did the Writers' Strike kill Heroes or did it sign its death warrant the minute they decided to keep the old characters around and not make it an anthology series as was originally planned? The first thing Sylar does in this season is, minor spoilers, take Claire's healing factor. This was the point where I was tired and just wanted Sylar to die and now I can never get that catharsis factor knowing that the writers don't want to write a new permanent villain. The characters are idiots with the villain of the first half being overpowered and there's nothing Peter or Hiro can do about it yet all he does is draw pictures and sends his incompetent henchmen to do his dirty work. There's nothing stopping him from just going to Primatech and kicking everybody's ass. After all, the Haitian is always conveniently absent because "oh no, he isn't an idiot". Mini-story arcs are dropped as soon as they are picked up with the two good characters introduced in season 2 having their talents wasted, to put it vaguely, the pilot for the superhero cop drama "Noah & Sylar" not getting picked up and the whole Villains thing being abandoned, if not banished to the online graphic novels, in favour of having two of them becoming asskissers for the generic doomsday villain who does nothing. Really, HRG is the only character I still liked that survived the season but that's mainly because his characterization remained the most consistent. Otherwise, characters find themselves changing morality just because the plot demands it. For instance, Sylar suddenly grew a conscience or something? Gee, I wonder if it'll stick. And minimal explanation as to why Future Claire hates her good uncle. Leave him alone, you already killed your Future uncle. Big shock, Claire goes through the same "ooh, I hate my daddy so much. No, I love my daddy-not-daddy". But there is some good to be found surprisingly. The special effects look great finally having a big enough budget for more flashy superpowers like cryokinesis and creating black holes, the actors are trying their best with the scripts they're given and the second half is an improvement, if only because Season 1 writer Bryan Fuller returns but its more an improvement as in "lesser of two evils". While no action sequence because the special effects artists crapped themselves when they noticed in the script that there was going to be an epic, if brief, final fight, the ending is rather interesting and I'm sure it will in no way whatsoever come back to haunt those who were in on it. While I made it this far, I guess there's no point in skipping out the fourth season and Reborn but the third season is a plot-hole laden mess that's painful to sit through. Although I will say this: I do love the lore located in the online graphic novels, shorts and the websites for the in-universe locations such as the Corinthian Hotel thanks to my good friend the Wayback Machine.
