Previous Kristy Puchko Mashable Rather than pitching in a flurry of "fun" ideas meant to keep knocking the chefs off-balance, this first season overwhelmed my palette, like too much truffle oil. Oct 13, 2022 Full Review Wenlei Ma Everything about Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend is mundane. It’s not worthy of the Iron Chef name. Jun 18, 2022 Full Review Carson Timar Clapper While maybe not perfect, the show pays respect to what made the series special to begin with, while also finding room for evolution. Jul 7, 2022 Full Review Andy Dehnart Reality Blurred Netflix's Iron Chef reboot is an average showcase for talented chefs that has been eclipsed by better competitions, and struggles to literally show us what's happening. C- Jun 15, 2022 Full Review Joel Keller Decider If you’re a fan, you’ll find this new season to be TV comfort food. Previous Sue R The season finale was unfair- how can one chef with two sous chefs realistically expect to win against 5 iron chefs and make 5 dishes. At least the chef competitor should have been allowed to have an equal number of sous chefs. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/08/24 Full Review Wobbles A I was ok with it at first, but then came the sturgeon episode. They had live fish, one chef dropped it and it landed hard on the steps. Sturgeon were falling off tables, gulping for air, taking forever to die. It's so easy to dispatch a fish, especially for so-called Eastern chefs, who mastered the Japanese technique of quickly and humanely dispatching fish. It takes seconds. But no, they just....had these beautiful fish, flopping on the floor, chefs chasing them around like it was a comedy sketch. How did they get away with this? Aren't there laws regarding animal welfare in the film industry? Like, I get it. I'm a carnivore. I know what happens to fish when they're caught. But there's just something deeply unsettling about having to watch these giant, magnificent animals slowly suffocating to death on camera, desperately flopping on the floor as they asphyxiate to death. Chef Tsai even referred to the sturgeon caviar as "baby fish", which didn't help. 🤢 I was already kind of disappointed with the vibe of the show with its manufactured drama and pretentiousness, but the sturgeon episode is what turned me off of the series completely. The only upside is the co-host Kristen Kish. She's like a Korean Ruby Rose, and I am so here for it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/13/23 Full Review Gustavk2 Soft version of original Iron Chef. The Iron Chefs seem to be pretty lack luster for being called Iron Chefs. Before the show is even completed you can tell who the judges are going to pick. I would prefer if the judges let the guest judge go first so they would say what they actually thought not go off of what the other 2 professional judges said. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/05/22 Full Review al a Very bland reboot. Most of the Iron Chefs do not seem to be up to par with previous iron chefs (except the terrible Bobby Flay). The new sets, music and round table do not have that competition feel of the old series. And to put one challenger in the finale and have her lose (by ONE point) to FIVE Iron Chefs is pretty disgraceful. Gabriela Camera (one of the new Iron Chefs) should be ashamed. Her big celebration was tacky and tasteless. She was acting like she won the world with the other four Iron Chefs (and I use that title loosely with this new group) while the challenger stood looking dejected. She came off as foolish. Alton Brown was good as always but his new sidekick lacked personality and purpose. Like this show, bland. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Clark G Just an abomination. The Jaws 3-D of the Iron Chef franchise. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/07/22 Full Review Audience Member Didn't keep me on the edge of my seat like previous Iron Chef Show. Both Iron Chefs and Challengers seems to "too chill", some not even braking a sweat, lacks excitement for me. Chefs not at Iron Chef caliber I don't think. It's a reboot bust for me.
