Depraved underachieving might look easy, but for the egocentric Mac, Charlie, Dennis, Frank and Dee, it's an art form. "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" follows "The Gang," the owners of the unsuccessful Paddy's Pub; a group of degenerates who loves nothing more than to scheme, conspire, and mostly revel in each other's misery. Whether gaming the welfare system, exploiting dumpster babies, pretending to be crippled, impersonating officers, or faking funerals, The Gang never stoops too low in the name of making a buck.

Critics Consensus

Twelve seasons in and It's Always Sunny still shines bright thanks to its willingness to trod into new comedic territory and push the limits of its already limitless characters.

Neal Justin Minneapolis Star Tribune "Philadelphia" doesn't just push the envelope; it burns it to a crisp. Oct 16, 2020 Full Review David Canfield Slate It's precisely because Always Sunny depicts such a defiantly anti-P.C. group of people that its turn toward sharper social criticism feels so rich. Oct 15, 2020 Full Review Caroline Framke Vox The best they can do is highlight the basic inequality they see, but because they can't feel it, "The Gang Turns Black" is just a surface-level experiment. May 23, 2018 Full Review Julie Mandel-Folly Paste Magazine I'm one of its biggest fans, and it inspired me to go into comedy myself. And yet, by the end of last week's "The Gang Turns Black," I found myself shaken and deeply unsettled. Oct 20, 2020 Full Review Kayla Cobb Decider If this complicated concept was executed by any other comedy, it wouldn't strike the same balance of hilariously reckless and soberly insightful as this [premiere] does. Oct 19, 2020 Full Review Petr Navovy Pajiba As they near the horizon of what may well be their end, they have dared to branch out -- conceptually as well as emotionally -- and they have refused to rest on their laurels. dave d This season had a lot of individual ideas which varied in strength. Some work, some don't and you'll quickly figure which ones do and which ones don't. That makes this season a little slower and a bit harder to navigate. However if you've made it this far you won't stop now! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/01/25 Full Review Regal R 55/100 - The show slowly declines around Season 12. They change some characters and make the relationship dynamic odd. It just doesnt work anymore. Also they keep making Dennis creepier and it gets really weird, like truly bizarre. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/19/24 Full Review Bec B The gang goes to the water park episode will have you laughing out loud. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/03/23 Full Review Floris D First off, I want to get it out of the way that I am rating the entire show in this review, even though it only reviews the 12th season. This show is absolutely fantastic. This is the best show I have ever seen. The consistency is crazy. It is currently on it's 16th season, and it still has not went stale, it feels as though every episode's plotline is just as crazy as the last. In the first two seasons or so, all the leading characters feel as though they have no personality, but it doesn't really hinder the experience. However, as the show develops, each character develops their own unique, crazy personality. You learn to care and love these people, even though really, they are all uncaring, selfish, cold-hearted monsters. And eventually, that's exactly what you love about them. I am reviewing season 12 as I find that it's my favourite of all the seasons, however, each season is better than the last, and this show as a whole is absolutely PERFECT. 10/10. May I add that series 10, episode 4 - 'Charlie Work' - is absolutely superb, an 11/10 episode. One of the best episodes in sitcom history, if I may say Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/21/23 Full Review S G Consistent and always fresh jokes and plots. Possibly the best comedy out right now. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/16/23 Full Review Terri F My absolute favorite show on tv Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/15/22 Full Review Read all reviews
