A drama about a typical family facing atypical situations -- not the least of which is their teen daughter's sudden, unexpected conversations with God, who pops up in such random forms as a cute boy or the school lunch lady. When Joan prays to God to save her brother after a horriffic car crash, God appears to Joan to remind her of that promise, and to giver her various assignments that may not make much sense at the time, but always turn out to improve a bigger situation.

Alison Willmore IndieWire The wry portrayals of God in the series felt too secular for some religious groups, but the show's warm, funny approach to the divine as incorporated into the life of a Maryland teenager was charming. Nov 21, 2018 Full Review Margaret Lyons New York Magazine/Vulture One of vanishingly few shows to bring up two extremely common questions that shape the human condition: "Is there a God?" and "Am I a good person?" The answer to both is, it depends whom you ask. Nov 21, 2018 Full Review James Poniewozik TIME Magazine Above all, Arcadia has managed to skate between preachiness and blasphemy by taking the religion out of God, literally. Nov 21, 2018 Full Review L.A. Johnson Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Designed to set the stage for her to wage more serious battles with evil. Rated: 2.5/4 Nov 13, 2019 Full Review Samantha Bornemann PopMatters Much of Season Two revolved around Joan's friendships and love life. Part of Joan's failure has been its inability to incorporate God and faith into its family show structure. Nov 21, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews
