Norm Henderson is a former professional hockey player who has been banned from the league because of gambling and tax evasion costs. In order to avoid spending time in jail, Norm agrees to do five years of community service as a social worker. The problem is he was not properly trained (other than how to operate the coffee machine). Helping Norm is Laurie, previously his personal social worker who is now his co-worker and best friend. Taylor, Norm's first client and a former prostitute, credits Norm with turning her life around and ends up working in the office.

Noel Murray AV Club What's largely missing from Norm is MacDonald's personal sensibility. It isn't a bad show, by and large... [But] it's hard not to pine for the Norm show that could've been. Rated: B- Jul 11, 2019 Full Review Joseph Jon Lanthier Slant Magazine [Norm MacDonald's] choppy, oddball vocal cadence and histrionic monotone form one of the most transparently mechanical, and consequently least dated, of late-20th-century primetime protagonists. Rated: 3/5 Jul 11, 2019 Full Review Mark Voger Newark Star-Ledger The plots are straight out of the playbook -- there are wayyyy too many unrequited-office-romance stories -- amped up with mean-spirited, politically incorrect humor. Jul 11, 2019 Full Review Jeremy Estes PopMatters The thing that makes the show palatable is that it is not mean, though the humor is often targeted at specific characters. It's cynical, to be sure, but in a way that feels real. Rated: 6/10 Jul 11, 2019 Full Review Chris Hicks Deseret News (Salt Lake City) All the cast members shine here and there, but the focus is clearly on Macdonald.
