Superheroes are often as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and sometimes even as revered as gods. But that's when they're using their powers for good. What happens when the heroes go rogue and start abusing their powers? When it's the powerless against the super powerful, the Boys head out on a heroic quest to expose the truth about the Seven and Vought, the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages the superheroes and covers up their dirty secrets. The Boys Season 4 often feels like it's setting up something big, and that may well be the case as the beloved show comes to a close in Season 5. Despite this, it has plenty to love with its signature blend of ridiculousness and real-life horror.

Not a one, because I got the (very) rare laugh here and there, but holy hell is it a rough watch. The writers didn't seem to want to tell any kind of story. It's preaching followed by expositional dialogue, followed by nonsequitor, obviously set up gore, then sprinkle in some depraved gay sex stuff and self righteous liberal wanking, and that's the boys season 4.

The thing that makes South Park such brilliant and successful satire with incredible staying power is that it's balanced in its critiques - there are no sacred cows, everything is in the crosshairs. Now, it's never been a secret that The Boys' darkly satirical take on power, corporatism, populism (among other themes) leans left, but in the early seasons they at least tempered that bias by poking some fun at leftist corporate virtue signaling through shallow "box ticking" gestures such as demographic diversity etc. Unfortunately, in season four any balance has completely evaporated, and loyal audiences are instead treated to non-stop caricatures of conservatives as stupid, hateful, gullible, one-dimensional knuckleheads worthy only of contempt and derision. Disappointing and boring.

After seasons 1 and 2 I was excited for the 3rd. 3rd was disappointing--it was obvious the show was shifting toward a strong left-wing ideology. Yet it was still tolerable and i wanted to stay loyal to the program. But my god, I was not prepared for the utter garbage of season 4. If youre into hyper extreme woke propaganda, then you will love this season. Anyone else, you'll likely find it annoying and desperate.
