Written by Paula Milne, the semiautobiographical drama series "White Heat" follows the lives of seven friends from 1965 to the present. As their lives, loves and destinies are influenced by the political events of each era, their relationships play out against the backdrop of these events to make them the people they are today. They first come together as students and flatmates living in London's Tufnell Park, a diverse group consisting of rebel Jack, intelligent feminist Charlotte, fragile beauty Lilly, medical student Jay, electronics enthusiast Alan, law student Victor and big-hearted Orla.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

With nonsensical writing and two-dimensional characters, White Heat fades away as another lackluster story utilizing tired time-period progression gimmicks.

Rachel Cooke New Statesman Will I tune in next time? Probably, albeit with less enthusiasm. May 9, 2012 Full Review Meredith Blake AV Club The real problem with the series isn't the haphazard history-it's the utter implausibility of the friendships it depicts. Rated: C+ May 9, 2012 Full Review Bernardette McNulty Daily Telegraph (UK) Milne turns each character into such a cipher it feels more like a game of Guess Who than a plausible dramatic conceit. Rated: 2.5/5 May 9, 2012 Full Review Emma Dibdin The Arts Desk There's not much here that's genuinely novel, and for a show centered on twenty-somethings discovering the pleasures of the Sixties there's precious little joy to be found. May 21, 2018 Full Review Ed Bark Uncle Barky Staying the course may prove to be time decently spent. Rated: B- May 9, 2012 Full Review Matt Roush TV Guide Quickly proves to be a warmed-over and tepid mishmash of changing-times cliches. May 9, 2012 Full Review Read all reviews
