Caroline Framke Boston Globe [The hosts are] charming enough as a duo, sure. But I’m not convinced their particular areas of expertise make them the right fit for this diet Gordon Ramsay show, which probably should’ve faced its own identity crisis before making its chefs do the same. Apr 30, 2025 Full Review Joel Keller Decider It may not break new ground, but the season should be entertaining. Apr 29, 2025 Full Review Andy Dehnart Reality Blurred Yes, Chef! may be about chefs who are a mess in the kitchen, but it’s the show that needs help, based on its first episode. Cristal J I love cooking competitions; I've enjoyed every one I've ever watched to some degree. But Yes, Chef! is neither good at being about cooking, or competing. The contestants are, by design, a group of unlikeable people that the show implies will be forced to improve their character through cooking challenges. So I was anticipating a show about some arrogant cooks being humbled a bit, then built back up into respectable chefs. What I got is a cut throat competition where underhanded tactics not only go unpunished, but are encouraged through results. Rather than reprimanding bad actors for poor sportsmanship, the hosts repeatedly tell those that were shorthanded that they should've done better to pivot or fight back. The elimination process is also unacceptable for a cooking show. Each episode ends with one of the contestants getting to pick who goes home. It leads to people being sent home for extremely trivial reasons in the name of competition; rather than any merits such as cooking, cooperation, or challenge comprehension. The only safety anyone has is ending up on the winning team, which are all automatically safe. Though this results in some of the worst chefs being untouchable. Three episodes in and with each one I'm ultimately left more and more angry. Good chefs are being sent home, people trying to play fair are being scolded by the judges, and bad actors are being kept safe through the luck of ending up on the winning team. I was expecting a show of mildly obnoxious jerks building some character. Not one truly heinous jerk continuously bulldozing the competition with the most unprofessional, childish behavior that would make any respectable competition chef quit on the spot. The biggest shame of it all is that, under any other circumstances, I'd like the hosts. They're funny, and their banter is great. But their comments towards the contestants makes me apprehensive even to them. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/17/25 Full Review Benjamin C All i can say from first episode is......NO, CHEF! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/06/25 Full Review James B it's sad that someone like Martha Stewart chooses to refuse to admit her age..instead she's painted like a zombie..Doris Day was photographed through layers of scrim..Martha seems to think a glitter sweater ( for heaven's sake buy a good bra )..is the answer..it's not..she should not be so stupid..it's sad..she's a caricature of who she used to be.
