Born January 18, 1977 in the Acarnes district of Athens, Greece, screenwriter Efthymis Filippou was known for his collaboration with Yorgos Lathimos , a director. In 2009 "Dogtooth," Filippou's first film, debuted to much acclaim, winning the Hellenic Film Academy Award for Best Screenplay. In 2011, his next film "Alps" was released. The drama was very well received by critics, and won a Golden Osella for Best Screenplay at the 68th Annual Venice Film Festival that year. In 2012 Filippou cowrote the movie "L," about a man living in his car. In 2015 Filippou wrote "The Lobster" (2016), a darkly comic look at a dystopian future where single people are forced to find a mate or be transformed into an animal. The movie was well received and earned a number of awards including the Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize, and the LA Film Critics Association Award for Best Screenplay. In 2015, the film "Chevalier" came out, for which Filippou was a co-writer.
