Helen Maroulis
Helen Maroulis was born Sept. 19, 1991 in Rockville, MD. Upon enrolling in the U.S. Olympic Education Center at Northern Michigan University, Maroulis took up freestyle wrestling, competing consistently in the 55 kg weight class. She began her career as a competitive fighter in 2011 with the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, at which she took home a gold medal. Over the several years to follow, Maroulis competed repeatedly in the World Wrestling Championships. She earned a silver medal in 2012 at the Canada-based event, followed by a bronze medal in Tashkent in 2014, all before working her way up to the gold in 2015's Las Vegas-based competition. Her acumen in the ring landed her a position on the United States' Olympic wrestling team; she was enlisted as a member ahead of the 2016 Summer Olympics, organized in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
