As an actor, musician, comedian and writer, Jasper Carrot has worn many hats throughout his career as a British entertainer. He began a singer, but soon his between-song patter took over his act and he became known primarily as a comedian. His first claim to fame was a novelty song called ''Funky Moped'', which had a raunchy b-side monologue. He became a popular stand-up comedian in the '70s and had his first TV special in '78, "An Audience with Jasper Carrott." This led to more TV work in the '80s and a starring role in the sketch show "Carrott's Lib," for which he earned a BAFTA nomination. In addition to his writing and comedic performances, Carrott earned the occasional acting gig as well, appearing in the action comedy film "Jane and the Lost City" in '87 and then co-starring in the crime-themed sitcom "The Detectives" for five seasons.
