Jean-Pierre Gos
Jean-Pierre Gos, a French actor who has (almost literally) spent much of his career hovering in the shadows, has recently begun moving towards the spotlight. Though Gos--who has been appearing regularly on both the big and small screen since his debut in the 1983 film drama "La Mort de Mario Ricci"--has worked with some of the biggest names in European cinema, he has almost been consigned to inconspicuous, fleeting roles, such as his blink-and-you'll-miss-it part in Robert Altman's 1990 Van Gogh biopic, "Vincent & Theo." He played a pastor opposite future Best Actress Oscar winner Marion Cotillard in "War in the Highlands," a mechanic in double Academy Award-winner Costa-Gavras' 2005 comedy noir "La Couperet," and had minor roles in Olivier Assayas' 1999 period drama "Les Destinées" and 2002 techno-thriller "Demonlover." In a rare foray into English-language film, Gos played a distant relative of Joan of Arc in Luc Besson's 1999 "The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc." On the back of his appearance in the popular TV period adventure "Nicholas Le Floch" in 2008, Gos has played the most high-profile roles of his career to date: Jacques Becker in "The Childhood of Icarus," the penultimate film made by the late actor Guillaume Depardieu, and Docteur Corvot in the 2010 period mystery "Deep in the Woods."
