Kristen Anderson-Lopez was an American actress and songwriter who composed numerous songs for Disney musicals along with her husband Robert Lopez, most notably their Academy Award-winning song "Let It Go" from the animated feature "Frozen" (2013). Anderson-Lopez graduated from Williams College in 1994 as double-major in drama and psychology. She and her husband first began collaborating in 2011 when they were one of five songwriting teams asked by directors Stephen Anderson and Don Hall to compile a demo tape to be used over a set of visuals for their animated Disney movie "Winnie the Pooh." Anderson and Hall were impressed by what the Anderson-Lopez and her husband produced, and eventually tasked them to write a total of seven songs that made it to the movie and its soundtrack such as "The Tummy Song," "Everything Is Honey," and "A Very Important Thing to Do." Their musical numbers for "Winnie the Pooh" earned them an Annie Award nomination for Best Music in a Feature Presentation. The duo's talent allowed them to surpass the success of their feature film debut when Disney once again reached out to them to write music for "Frozen." Loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen's "The Snow Queen," Disney's "Frozen" was a commercial and critical hit and Anderson-Lopez's song "Let It Go," as sung by Idina Menzel, became the first song from a Disney animated musical to reach the top ten of the Billboard Top 100 in nearly 18 years. (A pop cover by Demi Lovato also charted.) Anderson-Lopez and her husband were awarded their first Oscar for "Let It Go," winning Best Original Song at the 86th Academy Awards in 2014.
