Ted Cohen

A writer and producer of television comedies, Ted Cohen got his start in the business penning scripts for the animated show "Disney's Doug" (aka "Brand Spanking New! Doug"), a revamped version of the popular 1991-1994 series about a mild-mannered preteen. After breaking into world of live-action sitcoms with the immature-teacher comedy "Mr. Rhodes," Cohen worked his way onto the massively popular sitcom "Friends." Serving as a prolific writer from the third season on, he imbued the show's 30-something Manhattanites with enough quirky charm and relatable relationship woes to make them one of the quintessential sitcom casts of the '90s and early 2000s. As a producer of 128 "Friends" episodes, Cohen garnered four Emmy nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series, winning one. After the show ended in 2004, the TV veteran marched forward with his romantic-comedy campaign, writing and producing episodes of series such as "Worst Week" and "Rules of Engagement." After the immense success of "Friends," Cohen has struggled to find a sitcom that has connected with audiences in a comparable manner. The 2010 show "Romantically Challenged," which starred Alyssa Milano as a recent divorcee, was cancelled after just four episodes, and the 2012 cross-dressing comedy "Work It" was axed after only two episodes, deemed unfunny by viewers and critics and offensive by LGBT groups.
