American musician and producer Troy Andrews, better known by the name Trombone Shorty, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to a family with deep roots in the local music scene. He started playing the trombone at age four, participating in brass band parades throughout his early years. By age six, he had already become a band leader, later joining the Stooges Brass Band as a teenager. In 2005, he became part of Lenny Kravitz band during the artist's world tour. His first movie appearance was in the documentary film "Make It Funky!" (2005), about the music scene in New Orleans, in which he gave an interview and performed. Andrews continued to rise, performing alongside U2 and Green Day during the re-opening of the New Orleans Superdome, in 2006. Between collaborations with famous artists and talk shows, Andrews made a notable appearance in the TV series "Treme" (2010-13). His next project was the album "Backatown" (2010), which hit the number one Billboard magazine's Contemporary Jazz Chart, and which he presented in a world tour. That same year, he also recorded on CDs with various artists, as well as on the Academy Award nominated song "Down in New Orleans." Andrews' follow-up album, "For True" (2011) was released the year after, cementing his successful career. He went on to perform at the 2014 Grammy Awards, at the NBA Allstar Game, and with the Foo Fighters on many occasions. Alongside his band, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Andrews has since gone on tour with Red Hot Chilli Peppers and opened for Hall & Oates.
