Audience Member Norman Wisdom is an acquired taste. No gag is ever underworked, no sentiment escapes without being squeezed of every last drop. In this lamentable outing his idiot butcher's apprentice somehow brings a local hospital to its knees, and gets to dress up in drag etc. Wisdom's peculiar popularity in the late-50s and early-60s is one of the mysteries of light entertainment. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review sam w Dated but good slapstick fun with Wisdom putting in a great performance as a bumbling idiot. Silly throughout with a few good one liners, the stupidity/absurdity does become tiring at times and the simple setting could have been further developed. Great finale. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Plot what plot, well what there is of a plot is dull, rubbish and very thin on the ground. The jokes repeat themselves, and everything is very predictable, but the acting is charming and overall it is a warm film. The best bit is when Norman ends up on top of the ambulance and gets thrown around as it drives along, other than that the jokes are a little thin on the ground. Again this is another lazy Sunday afternoon film, and only worth watching if you haven't got anything else better to do. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Possibly my favourite Norman Wisdom film with several laugh out loud scenes (really love the 'bandaged up' Wisdom trying to catch up with the St Johns ambulance) - some humour just never gets old. Regulars Jerry Desmonde and Edward Chapman provide the usual foil and sidekick roles! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member One of my favourite Wisdom films - the first 20 minutes is pure comedy gold - but over does the sentimental part of the film which IMO always seems to be his downfall Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Well structured comedy, although it is nothing new for Norman Wisdom who is churning out an alternative version of the same old stuff he'd done frequentlly before, the overall comedy suffers for it. Look out for the bit part of Johnny Briggs. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews
