Eye C More for the gossip than anything else, but at least this one didn't bore me. Rated 1/5 Stars •  Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/16/25 Full Review Russ G Saw this at age 21 when it came out and thought it was good. So I checked it out 50 years later and found it unwatchable. I skipped through about half of it but didn't miss anything. It's variously labeled as a drama and a comedy; it doesn't work either way. Kristofferson stinks up everything he's in; he should have stuck to songwriting. The kid is annoying AF. The story is utterly disjointed; the intent may have been to make it "episodic" in a documentary style, but the lack of flow is unacceptable. Alice is weak and dumb; she gets involved with someone she doesn't know just weeks removed from widowhood? Are we supposed to accept "vulnerability" as the excuse? Continuity is bad in this, too; first she's in a motel then a shabby apartment with no connecting scenes. Alice's husband is killed on the job; don't tell me there wouldn't have been life insurance or a lawsuit against his employer so I don't get why she was reduced to desperation. No family, no savings, no home ownership after around 13 years of marriage? Were the 60's and 70's really that bad for functioning adults? Alice is raising a 13/14 year old son who's a complete idiot? Some good moviemaking here such as the staged truck accident which couldn't have been cheap to film, but that doesn't make it a believable story or a good film, even with a barely pubescent Jody Foster in it. They used this film as the basis for a later sitcom simply called "Alice" but that was entirely different; it was more like a precursor to something like "Cheers" focusing on just four characters from the diner. Rated 4/5 Stars •  Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/28/24 Full Review Mauricio R Cuando uno habla de Martin Scorsese se le viene a la mente demasiadas cintas de cualquier género, dígase desde Mean Streets, Raging Bull, Cape or Fear, sus clásicos de gangsters como GoodFellas, Casino, The Departed e incluso infantiles como Hugo y también más recientes como The Irishman o Killers of the Flower Moon. Lo cierto es que de esta cinta se habla poco o nada y es que apesar de ser uno de sus primeros proyectos como cineasta considero que es una cita obligada para un fan de Scorsese ya que aquí se encuentra su estilo desde lo técnico con esos movimientos de cámara o la sinergía que maneja para con sus actores (incluso ya empezaba a colaborar con un joven y audaz Harvey Keitel). Ellen Burstyn está en una de sus mejores actuaciones que le valdría un premio de la academia por mejor actriz principal y no es para menos porque la vemos reír, llorar, sufrir junto con Alfred Lutter que intrerpreta al hijo de Alice, empatizamos con ambos personajes y logra caernos mal por momentos.
