What to Know

Critics Consensus

Alice Through the Looking Glass is just as visually impressive as its predecessor, but that isn't enough to cover for an underwhelming story that fails to live up to its classic characters.

Udita Jhunjhunwala Livemint The film misses Burton's odd charm, is largely devoid of humour and, in spite of Hathaway, Depp and Bonham Carter, is mostly a waste of time. Aug 15, 2019 Full Review Nigel Andrews Financial Times [A] bland, overblown, characterless spectacle. Rated: 2/5 Dec 31, 2016 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com While little touches here and there can't help but excite the senses, the lack of a nuanced story or intriguing characterizations makes maintaining interest for all two hours utterly ridiculous. Rated: 1.5/4 Aug 9, 2016 Full Review Denise Pieniazek A Sala Llena (Argentina) Assuming that the literary work is only a starting point for inspiration, as happens here (the story completely deviates from the theme of the book of the same name), the narrative remains halfway without being entertaining enough, much less profound. Rated: 4/10 Jan 14, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The movie's overarching theme remains that time is short, and so we must make the most of it. But, thanks to this movie, time is a thief, stealing two unrecoverable hours from our lives. Rated: 0.5/4 Apr 11, 2022 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy The Walrus and the Carpenter are nowhere to be found in Alice Through the Looking Glass, meaning audiences will have to make do with the addition of Marty McFly and Captain Jack Sparrow. Matthew M Alice Through the Looking Glass is what I truly call art. I personally don't understand the hate, considering all the dedication and heart put into the film. It has a really sad but interesting backstory to Iracebeth of Crims, tells a great story of the once-belived tragedy of the Hightopp Hatters, and overall has marvelous, astonishing, and truly wonderlandic visuals. The acting was realistic, the emotions felt genuine, and the CG elements such as the Chesire Cat, the Ocean of Time, and the Outlands itself were genuinely astonishing. My favorite thing is of Underland when it rusts over, creating a genius, creative, and purely great ending that was off with their heads. Alice Through the Looking Glass stands my third favorite film of all time aside from Henry Selick's Coraline, and Kenny Ortega's Descendants. And for those of you reading this, I have a question. Have you any idea why a raven is like a writing desk? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/18/24 Full Review Audience Member I’m sorry I just don’t get the hate it was really good to me. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/24/24 Full Review Eye C It’s not quite bad, but looses focus and Wonderland becomes Normalland, and I think that nobody wanted to see that. Oh, and so much CGI, nothing seems realistic. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/28/24 Full Review Estevan G Not the best but not his worst. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/16/24 Full Review Guilherme F ESSE FILME É MAIS CONFUSO QUE O PRIMEIRO , ACHO ELE ALGO TOTALMENTE FEITO PRA GANHAR DINHEIRO , PARA MIM NAO HA OUTRA JUSTIFICATIVA DESSE FILME EXISTIR.
