Critics Consensus

Back to the Future II is far more uneven than its predecessor, but its madcap highs outweigh the occasionally cluttered machinations of an overstuffed plot.

Mike McGrady Newsday While the funny-bone is being gently tickled, the eye is constantly diverted. Unfortunately, and I find this true of every Zemeckis movie, neither the mind nor the heart is ever fully engaged. Rated: 2.5/4 Oct 22, 2015 Full Review David Jenkins Little White Lies Imperfect, but very lovable. Rated: 3/5 Oct 22, 2015 Full Review Gene Siskel Chicago Tribune A surprisingly oppressive, rapid-fire, noisy, gadget-filled action picture lacking the emotion of the original film. Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 29, 2015 Full Review David Reddish CBR Back to the Future Part II left the biggest mark on popular culture, sparking imagination and inspiring more adventure. Whatever its flaws or negativity it inspired from fans of the first movie, it remains the defining entry in the series. Rated: 3.5/4 Nov 19, 2024 Full Review Hannah Rose CBR One of the greatest and subtlest selling points of Back to the Future was its cuteness. It might be odd, even trivial, to call a big-budget, epic sci-fi film cute, but this is an accurate description Rated: 9/10 Apr 30, 2024 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Like fellow second child Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, it has to contend with doltish charges of being too cold. yuka back to the future3 please! best movie all that time Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/25/24 Full Review LM Loved it all over again! Please do this more often! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/25/24 Full Review Audience Member Back to the Future Part II is just as good as the first one. The performance of the actors/actresses are phenomenal. I love how it instantly continues from the first film. Best trilogy in film history. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/12/24 Full Review Garrett B Not as good as the first but still thrilling Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/07/24 Full Review MG_Claymore C When I was a kid I always thought of part 2 has being the best one on the trio. It's certainly the one I've watched the most. Its a good sequel and it ties in well enough with the first one. I must say as someone who has lived through 2015, it looks nothing like as portrayed in the film. Which is a shame. After all, i am writing from the future. Now that I've grown up a bit, although I still like part 2. I now think the first part is the superior film. "47! That's one hell of a good face lift." Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/10/24 Full Review Felix B Despite the unrealistic predictions this is a brilliant sequel to what was a good film and I think this is the best film in the series. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/22/24 Full Review Read all reviews
