It’s not your typical high ego gangster flick that’s action-packed, but more tells a story of the harsh reality and consequences of being involved in that business. Sean Penn also does a great job at playing a character that’s intolerable. 9.5 See more Charles R. @themoviedad Feb 12 I really enjoyed the storytelling in Carlito’s Way, particularly how Carlito tries so hard to reach his version of Paradise but can never truly escape his past life. Time and again, he chooses what he believes will secure his future, even though he knows those decisions will ultimately be detrimental to him. The subtle hints of people slowly turning their backs on him are a great touch, keeping you unsure of who is truly loyal until the very end. While some parts felt a bit slow for my liking, that pacing seems more like a product of the era in which the film was made. Overall, I really enjoyed this film.
