Audience Member A touching minor Sokurov. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member I went to watch this because of Rostropovich yet i concentrated on Vishnevskaya more. She always has that solemn, lonely and self-protection look in her eyes. The story she told about her son keeps lingering in my mind. Compared to the playful and passionate Rostropovich, she seems like being solitary for most of the time. I love watching documentaries of Sokurov. He put so much emotions into his docs. It makes the docs even more personal. Maybe it's b/c he knows so clear how impossible it is to be "objective" in doc-making, so he rather interpretes everything from his own pov, which is wonderful, and touching. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Cool. Very precious documentary made before the great conductor and celloist passed away. Personally I think Galina Vishnevskaya made a greater achievement than her husband Rostropovich because of her family background. She has to make her very best to get the things she enjoy right now. The private interview with her is one of the most touching moments apart from the interview with Rostropovich and his rehearsal with Ozawa and the Wiener Philharmonic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member An absorbing documentary on the husband and wife musical team, with a melancholic and pensive undertone. Brilliant moments include Rostropovich's insight into and comparison of the composer and the performer, the gazes of Vishnevskaya, and some valuable archive footage.
