Audience Member Definitely one of the best documentaries I've seen in a long time. Nuka (the "Eskimo Diva") is an artist on a mission: to take a drag performance from Nuuk --Greenland's capital city and only dot of gay life -- out "On the Ice", to the string of remote Greenlandic villages that make up the rest of the country. We are with Luka through all the challenges; logistical (many villages are only accessible by helicopter), emotional, and cultural; and will audiences accept Nuka's homosexuality and provocative honesty? In the end, Eskimo Diva presents a compelling story combined with natural dialog that provides a clear window into the characters that leaves the audience wanting more: more stories from and about the title character; his family, friends, and the hauntingly harsh beauty of a world we too rarely see presented in near-perfect counterpoint with the intriguing people who live there.
