Clearly set of the French genre of the time where women were portrayed as innocent flowers or manipulative and men acted accordingly; notable for a teenage Adjani

Fascinating in its own dreamy way, this film concentrates entirely on a group of people dreaming away in the French countryside somewhere in the beginning of the 1970's. Unfortunately, as promising as this might seem, the film lacks almost entirely any sort of plot development or character depth - or did I not simply see it? All events take place in the relationships of these people, in the way they relate to each other, more or less intensely. Some of the dialogue is quite unforgettable and rather beautiful, some seems pointless. Some of the scenes are rather disturbing to say the least, but some are nice and really atmospheric. Indeed, the biggest problem in this movie filled with fine actors is its abrupt ending and its all around - slowness. Nice to see people talking to each other, but where is all the story and character development? Ranging from sweet to disturbing it also has an odd still tension in some scenes, its rather amazing. Its hard to explain, see it yourself. Oddity oddity, it almost takes you somewhere else during some of the summer dreaming scenes, and also I realized there was one character whose subtitle lines I never even read unlike the others (I just stared at her face). Indeed, these are nice visions, but it is not what one expects from a film. I give this movie three stars because it is utterly different from any I have seen, and despite the disturbing relationship scenes, I think it had some really fascinating and dreamlike elements. Too bad it ends so abruptly, many of the characters have a short duration of screen life here: it is like a flash of lightning that we see some characters actually developing..and then its over. Nice, dreamy.. don't expect riveting hollywood-action though
