Cate Young BattyMamzelle [T]he film inadvertently sidelines the value of real world femininity as something that has to be shed in order to attain power. Rated: 4/5 Mar 10, 2019 Full Review Kahron Spearman The Daily Dot I Am Not An Easy Man has some winning portions in the strong comedic moments and Ferdane's spectacular performance, but ultimately its interesting concept goes nowhere. Rated: 2.5/5 May 15, 2018 Full Review Renee Schonfeld Common Sense Media French romcom with hilarious twist; sex, swearing, drinking. Rated: 4/5 May 15, 2018 Full Review Joe Reid Decider You've seen many better attempts to deal with gender politics in romantic comedies, but you've definitely seen worse. Apr 18, 2018 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation I laughed and laughed at this gender-reversal sex farce. This director knows where to stick her satiric knife. Mariana R pues no me dio tanto chisye pero quiero mucho a mi maestra de inglés tmbn Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/08/23 Full Review Yellowfur D It is unclear, leaving space like a novel; it is spicy, with every word written in blood like a book written in blood. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/06/23 Full Review C. W I think this film is one of the best I've seen in recent years, as far as strength of narrative goes. It is a master of tackling a heavy, difficult message without trying to spell everything out in some grandiose, drawn-out speech about "society" from a main character (which a number of recent films and shows have tried, only to horrendously backfire). The devil is in the details, with the both the parallel world and the film's message built on non-verbal subtleties that crescendo into the final, gut-wrenching sequence of the film. My one critique is that I wouldn't classify this film as a comedy, though it certainly has comedic elements. I wish that all could see this movie at least once, as it is incredibly thought provoking. After watching the film together, my family and I ended up talking for several hours afterwards in order to process the movie, and while different things about the movie stuck out to each of us based on our individual experiences with gender-typed treatment, we agreed that the key takeaway is this: regardless of our gender identities- we should strive to create a world where we all treat each other with equal respect. Lastly, in response to the criticism that the strength of "femininity" wasn't shown enough in this film, I have this to say: The intention of the movie is to point out just how ridiculous the current state of our world is in- how awful it is that some people are treated better (or worse) than others because of their gender identity and/or how they have chosen to present themselves. It is a bitter reminder of how terrible our reality actually is, an exploration into why categorizing everything and everyone as either "masculine" or "feminine" is such a terrible standard in the first place. ("Femininity" is part of my gender identity. I was assigned female at birth. If you needed to know either or both of these things in order to decide what you thought of my review, I highly recommend you watch this film. Watch it again, if you must.) Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Viv L Very clever and believable. By the end, I was living in the other world and I didn't want to return to this one. And it's in Paris, J'adore. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review heloise d Fabulous, I can't believe it had such low ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. I can't rely on RT's ratings anymore, they are so clearly biased, only big public US movies or special PC agendas movies get good grades on this site. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing! I had low expectations for this but it ended up being and amazing movie. The only thing I didn't like was the ending, which was king of confusing, not sure I understood well. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
