      Critics Consensus

Bearing only the slightest resemblance to Isaac Asimov's short stories, I, Robot is still a summer blockbuster that manages to make viewers think -- if only a little.

An effective action movie Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/06/24 Full Review Shay C It's good. I have vague memories of this movie from my childhood. It's entertaining. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/24 Full Review Shaun E I robot is an, albeit imperfect, excellent film. The film starts off in a weird way - it appears to be more of an advert for a pair of shoes than the start of a film. The product placement is blatant. If they had dropped it there, then it might not be the sort of thing to draw the viewer out of the film and keep them fixed in the drama. The set up for a distrust of robots is nicely done. CGI was probably good for its time, but looks a bit overdone and busy. It certainly looked a bit too false. The problem with changing technology. Other than that, the story is very well done. I have not read Asimov's work upon which the film was loosely based, so have no comment as to how faithful it was to the core storyline, but as a standalone piece of work it does raise some very good points about a future which is increasingly looking at artificial intelligence. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/24 Full Review Dinos K my biggest problems were 1. Will Smith did Will Smith (the only role who can do) 2. CGI were worst than PlayStation_1 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/03/24 Full Review Andy A This movie was utter tripe but looking at the production I can see why. There was a good base and there's refferances to fantastic books but none of it works together. It's confused, shallow and and underwhelming. Frankly I don't think we need any Frankensteins Robot movies never mind another. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Sukhdev Sandhu Daily Telegraph (UK) Leaving aside the sub-Matrix hokum about Spooner's sweet-potato-loving grandmom, the movie humiliates itself - and embarrasses us - by the amount of time it spends plugging a glamorous car... Apr 1, 2019 Full Review Richard Corliss TIME Magazine In the end, I, Robot is just an assembly-line product of a not very advanced model. Apr 1, 2019 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald He excels in creating alternative worlds and the one here sustains the film, with a pristine beauty that's attractive and slightly sinister. Apr 1, 2019 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Though the material possessed the potential for landmark genre filmmaking, the result feels like two hours of product placement, so-so-special FX, too much comic relief, and non-acting from a star sleeping through his performance. Rated: 1/4 Aug 22, 2023 Full Review Jennifer Bisset CNET A routine blockbuster for reliable entertainment. Mar 21, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins The way in which the robots acrobatically leap about, as if immune to the effects of gravity, is the main offender.
