Aleesa S Visually and musically, it's gorgeous. But there's little plot holding the story together. It's more like a collection of vignettes with really poor segues in between. And all the characters came across as oddly flat, especially the titular composer. I felt no emotional connection to any of them. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/03/23 Full Review Ondej V Very refreshing experience. A biopic about a composer set in Venice and Naples. Great music, costumes, scenes and a sublime story told at a good enough pace to enjoy it all. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/19/22 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Anna Smith Deadline Hollywood Daily [Strains] under the weight of biographical information. But it’s still a strong biopic that has something to say about musical creativity and opportunity, as well as the colorful lifestyle of 18th century Venetians. Sep 29, 2022 Full Review Jonathan Romney Screen International A visually and musically vivid film that, while it undoubtedly labours under some staid period drama conventions, largely transcends them with its ripely conceived backstage and bedroom intrigue. Sep 20, 2022 Full Review Filipe Freitas Always Good Movies Even with some deviations from historical truth, the director provides a fair view of the artist and his personality, in a ballsy move that avoids the pitfalls of academicism and period dramas. Rated: 4/5 Sep 27, 2023 Full Review Amber Wilkinson Eye for Film In less adept hands this could have become a clash of content but Václav keeps all his elements in balance, managing to celebrate the beauty of opera on the one hand while showing us uglier mini dramas playing out at the front and back of house.
