Audience Member A really great movie made in a time when the movie industry tried to make great movies, not the visceral garbage that they produce today. The actors & film aspire to lift up people to be more honorable, honest people who try to reach up to be of good character, not get sucked down into the swill of selfishness & self-centeredness. Brief synopsis: There are many twists and turns to keep your attention... The king of France had twin boys, one to rule France. To avoid future turmoil the second twin was to be killed but was secreted away to live, not knowing his heritage. Plots inside of plots the second twin displaces the first as ruler. The swashbuckling Fairbanks, as D'Artagnan, leads the other three Musketeers with devotion to duty at all costs in a struggle to overcome evil & return the rightful king to the throne. Enjoy! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review jordan m The version of this movie most widely available is the one with the narration track made by Fairbanks's son. He does a fine job with tone and pacing, but the action sequences are vastly overshadowed by his talking over them. It was a peculiar viewing experience as it's the only movie from the 1927-1929 transition period I've seen and I found myself comparing it to other narrated entertainment like nature documentaries. It helped with shortening the movie by reducing the need to hesitate on intertitles but the script he read from sounded exactly like the intertitles of the previous movie except that they were expanded with the new sound medium. The quantity of narration rivaled that of Forrest Gump and would've surpassed it had this movie been as overlong as that one. It is arguably unfair of me to judge the movie based primarily on the narration that was added in later, but since this is the version made available on Amazon Prime & other outlets it'll be the one that people watch nowadays and they'll come away feeling like they just watched an audiobook being read to them. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The best thrilling movie ever made! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review kevin w One might imagine that those in the movie industries would welcome the changes that the new technologies, sound recording, would bring. Instead history teaches that most, well many, resisted it. In this film, Douglas Fairbanks' last silent, beyond the story is a touch of melancholy. "All for one, and one for all!", the particular anthem for this oft-told tale goes, but one senses that it doesn't simply refer to the Musketeers alone here. Fairbanks et al seem to be bidding 'goodbye' to a cherished friend as well, the silent movie. Our generations can only imagine the impact, the emotions embraced, for those living through those times with what we refer to now as antiquated technology, but for them ... And so this is kind of their wishing 'goodbye', in their own way. Silently. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Good movie but the quality was pretty distracting. I loved how it made you feel every emotion from pain to glee. Although this may be a movie that I probably wouldn't watch again, it wasn't that bad. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Normally I like silent films, but this one was just boring. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
