In late-19th-century Montana, Will Lane (Buddy Ebsen) is sent to look after unruly Lee (Keir Dullea), the son of a deceased pal. Lane hopes to find Lee a bride who'll tame him, so he selects a mail-order wife, Annie (Lois Nettleton). All goes according to plan, until carefree bachelor Lee makes a deal with Annie: he'll support her financially if she leaves him after the wedding. Annie agrees, but when Lee truly falls for his bride-to-be, he must choose between his lawless ways and settling down.

Audience Member Low key western from writer director Burt Kennedy about Buddy Ebsen arranging a marriage for the son of a deceased friend. The son goes along with the marriage and the film proceeds with a nice mix of comedy and sentiment, although the finale seems a rather blatant rip off of the far superior "Ride the High Country." Warren Oates, Paul Fix, Marie Windsor, Denver Pyle, Kathleen Freeman and my all time favorite character actor William Smith all also appear in the film.
