Critics Consensus

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children proves a suitable match for Tim Burton's distinctive style, even if it's on stronger footing as a visual experience than a narrative one.

Udita Jhunjhunwala Livemint Visually sumptuous but dull, this is not the joyously peculiar Burton of Edward Scissorhands or Beetlejuice, but a dialed-down version... Jul 31, 2019 Full Review Kristen Lopez Culturess Miss Peregrine is a return to form for Burton. Nov 20, 2017 Full Review Angie Han Slashfilm Despite its stated obsession with all things "peculiar," there's little about this movie that is actually surprising. It comes across like a movie going through the motions of setting up a franchise, not a movie eager to bring you on a wild adventure. Rated: 5/10 Jun 16, 2017 Full Review Carla Monfort Espinof It is content to be simply and plainly correct when it could have been much more if they had only put a little more soul and less special effects into it. [Full review in Spanish] Jul 17, 2024 Full Review Denise Pieniazek A Sala Llena (Argentina) Consequently, even if the script or the original idea is not his own, Burton always imposes his imprint on the story. The film immerses us in the mystery from the beginning with its monsters that mix the aesthetics of classic science fiction cinema... Rated: 6/10 Jan 14, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children feels strange for the sake of strangeness. This is a shame because there was a lot of potential to tell a story that resonated with young people who feel like outsiders. Rated: 2/4 Apr 11, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

naim c Miss peregrines home for peculiar children is a good movie with a unique concept and stunning visuals, but the ending was pretty underwhelming. The villain just didn’t feel that compelling and kind of fell flat. it really could have used a longer runtime and more exposition to develop the characters and the world better. it had a lot of potential, but it jus left me wanting more Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/21/24 Full Review Dionisis T Couldn't believe Tim Burton directed this crap... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/28/24 Full Review Audience Member A weird and twisted, but enjoyable movie. An underrated film for sure. 8.5/10 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/12/24 Full Review Simon N This is one of the best Movies ive ever seen. At least i would say that it is one of the most entertaining movies, since it actually is a new story and not just the same old movietype everyone has seen in a long time. I think it truely is a masterpiece, the story captured me instantly and i was so hooked that i wanted to see the sequal instantly, since i thaught it would be quiet possible there allready is one because it was released in 2016. Ive been a bit shocked to find out that there never has been made one, and i am only writing this to hopefully change that. I would be willing to wait a couple of years to see it, and hope that a lot of you are feeling the same way abought it, so that we could support each other and make it happen. I wish you all the best and am happily looking foreward to maybe seeing more movies of this quality and type :) Ps: i just finished the movie and am still looking at the ending while writing this and i just needed to share my thaughts to see if there were any other people that think the same way. Cheers Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/09/24 Full Review Pongo K It's ok. No Oscar. C it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/19/24 Full Review Guillaume D Certainly not the movie of the century or the decade, but nice little movie; quite refreshing. I watched it online without knowing it was a burton movie, and I think that helped (I did not expect a Burton...). The story has some weird incoherencies, but I guess the goal here is to let go and accept this stroll in an imaginary world. The monsters are sometimes too scary to show to young kids, which is a pitty as the beginning of the movie is quite suitable for that. The end had too many action scenes to my taste, it changed the movie's style, and not for the best. But all in all, a cute, fresh little story.
