Steve D A mixed bag of stories but entertaining enough. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/25/23 Full Review Josh G There's a common bond between strangers showing how a little kindness can go a long way, filled with memorable supporting performances and a stylish jazzy soundtrack. A true gem of a film from beginning to end or wherever a cab can take you. I am amazed by the witty and relatable dialogue that offers situational humor. The limited camera creates an environment that feels as if you are part of the conversation along for the ride. The directing is top notch and brings a gentle hand to simple but near perfect film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/23/23 Full Review John A The allure and energy gets significantly lower in each vignette. It seems Jarmusch should've simplified the whole 2 hour picture down to the characters shown in the first and second sequences Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/25/23 Full Review Vito P To each actor, a tailor-made story makes them appear completely natural in the ugliest corners of the splendid cities shown. By heavily emphasizing irony, the grotesque, and the macabre, the sense of completeness and empathy toward these quirky humans is heightened. Derek Smith Slant Magazine Throughout, Jim Jarmusch playfully blurs the line between driver/passenger, servant/customer, and native/immigrant. May 12, 2017 Full Review Geoff Andrew Time Out Though it may take a while to get Jarmusch's gist, hang in there; by the time Tom Waits growls his lovely closing waltz over the credits, Jarmusch has shown us moments most filmmakers don't even notice. Jan 26, 2006 Full Review Vincent Canby New York Times With this, his fourth commercially released feature, Mr. Jarmusch again demonstrates his mastery of comedy of the oblique. Rated: 3.5/5 May 20, 2003 Full Review Tim Brayton Alternate Ending Jarmusch at his most curious about humans but also his most sedate as a filmmaker. Rated: 3/5 Oct 24, 2022 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy As expected, the quality of the individual vignettes varies, though only one is an out-and-out drag. Rated: 3/4 Apr 24, 2019 Full Review Malcolm Johnson Hartford Courant Funny, penetrating, zany and sad film. Apr 10, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews
